APSPCB to embark upon concrete pollution control measures

Itanagar, Aug 2 (UNI) The Arunachal Pradesh State Pollution Control Board (APSPCB) is embarking upon various innovative measures to check and reduce pollution in the state.

Newly appointed chairman of the board Sunjoy Tassar, while talking to media persons informed that though the board was yet to be funded by the state government, but it had resolved to translate the vision of Chief Minister Gegong Apang into a reality.

''The Board is a regulatory body to perform statuatory duties of enforcing central acts and rules at the directive of Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) and under the direct monitoring of the Supreme Court Monitoring Committee'', he added.

Disclosing about his plans and policies Mr Sunjoy stated that the board had evolved strategy to end the ongoing disposal of municipal solid waste of the capital complex along the NH 52A with a Rs 60 lakh allocation given by the CPCB for the purpose.

He said construction and maintenance of planned sewage and drainage; complete check on the hapahazard disposal and dumping of waste throughout the Capital Complex with the help of concerned departments; construction of hygienic slaughter houses at selected locations away from the market and strict adherence of the rules by licensing authority; shifting of dairy, poultry, goatery and piggery units from market and residential areas to thinly populated locations are some of the projects.

The other projects are shifting of fabrication units to government industrial areas; regular pollution checking jointly by SPCB and district administration, ensuring management and disposal of hazardous and infectious wastes by hospitals, nurshing homes and dispensaries in strict compliance to Bio-medical Wastes (Management&Handling) Rules would be his other areas of priority, he added.
