Amar Singh, Jaya Bachchan quit Sahara One board

New Delhi, Aug 2 (UNI) Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh and cine actress Jaya Bachchan, both members of the Rajya Sabha, have resigned from the board of the Sahara One Media and Entertainment Ltd, it was announced today.

''Mr Amar Singh and Mrs Jaya Bachchan have resigned from the post of Directors of the company and Board in its meeting held on July 29, 2006, has accepted their resignations'', Sahara One Media and Entertainment informed the Bombay Stock Exchange.

Both Mr Singh and Mrs Bachchan were embroiled in the Office of Profit controversy. In fact, Mrs Bachchan had to resign from her Rajya Sabha seat since she was holding the post of the Chairperson of the Uttar Pradesh Film Development Corporation, which was considered the Office of Profit.

Further, Sahara One has informed that Mr Brijendra Sahay, Mr R S Rathore and Mr Harindra Singh have been appointed as Independent Directors of the company.

The Sahara Group runs a slew of television channels and runs production house for Bollywood films.
