45 Tamil refugees arrive at Valavandankottai camp

Tiruchirapalli, Aug 2 (UNI) More than 45 refugees, including 13 women and several children from the island nation were housed at the temporary transit camp for Sri Lankan Tamil refugees at Valavandankottai, near here yesterday.

Official sources told UNI that 14 families arrived in the transit camp by a special bus from the Mandapam Refugee Camp at Rameswaram, due to overcrowding in the MRC, following a sudden influx of refugees from Sri Lanka.

With the arrival of fresh batch of refugees, the total strength of inmates in the camp had gone to 1,144 including 385 women, the sources said adding that the newly arrived refugees were temporarily accomodated in a Middle school inside the camp complex and provided with food and other basic requirement.
