Guwahati, Aug 1 (UNI) The ULFA has called for Independence day boycott like past years and announced road blockade on that day urging ordinary people to stay away from the I-Day function.

The latest issue of ULFA's mouthpiece ''Freedom'' today justified their stand saying that they had not imposed any preconditions.

According to them ''sovereignty being their main demand should be included in the agenda of the talk, the Freedom said.

According to the banned outfit, the Government of India was putting up new conditions. ''We sought the release of jailed ULFA leaders to hold the Central Executive meet as without its consent no major policy decision can be taken by the organisation. But the government insists that only after talk, the jailed leaders can be released,'' it said.

Accusing the government of double speaking, the ULFA said it would be looking for permanent end to hostility rather than ceasefire. ''That is possible only if the army is withdrawn from the state of Asom''. The ULFA statement also said that it had not disbanded the PCG and would continue to look for a peaceful solution to the vexed issue but alleged that the government was trying to create more hurdles than the ULFA for kick-starting the peace process.
