Two naxals killed in encounter

Nagpur, Aug 1 (UNI) Two insurgents were killed while two policemen were injured in an encounter between naxals and the special anti-naxal squad sleuths at Pulbori Gatta in Dhanora taluka of Gadchiroli district today.

Police told UNI that a group of naxals opened fire on the police force which intensified its combing operation to thwart destructive activities of naxalites during their ''Shahid Saptah (Martyr's Week)'' in Gadchiroli.

The police personnel retaliated forcing the naxalites to run away into the thick jungles this morning.

They recovered two bodies of naxalites from the spot. The two policemen injured in the encounter have been admitted in the hospital. They also recovered three rifles, three bombs and some literature. The sources denied any police casualties in the encounter.

Meanwhile, a report reaching here said a group of naxalites yesterday broke into the offices of the Mouja Hodri grampanchayat and Zerangi grampanchayat and set them afire. They also distributed pamphlets with slogans ''Charu Majumdar Amar Rahe and Naxalwad Zindabad''. Police had detained 168 supporters of naxals in the district yesterday and action was taken against eleven of them.
