Tension in Asom-Arunachal state border

Itanagar, Aug 1: Shimmering tension has been growing up at Bordumsa sub-division under Changlang district of Arunchal Pradesh following 'forceful' capture of the Wagun Ghat in the district by Asom recently.

Extra Assistant Commissioner (EAC) of Bordumsa had requested the Changlang district deputy commissioner, superintendent of police along with additional deputy commissioner (ADC) and sub-divisional police officer of Miao, to take up the matter with their Asom counterparts in order to avoid any untoward incident at the disputed location, informed official sources here today.

The ADC of Miao has also requested the Changlang DC and Commissioner Home to take up the matter with Asom counterpart and conduct a joint inspection to defuse the tension in the region.

The Changlang DC has urged his counterpart in Tinsukia district of Asom return the said ghat in conformity with the status quo prevailing in between both the state, sources informed.

Meanwhile, the meeting attended by all leaders of public, panchayat and students association trying to resolve the restoration of communal harmony has claimed that Wagon Ghat, started in 1961, undoubtedly belongs to the state.

Talking about the Khota Sema Ghat in Asom, about 500 meters from Wagon Ghat, the meeting concluded that both the Ghats were functioning smoothly since the last 40 years.

The meeting further resolved to apprise and highlight the issue to the State government, for an amicable solution of the dispute.

It might be mentioned here that an FIR signed by 17 prominent persons, including gao burahs of various villages, public leaders and panchayat leaders of the subdivision was lodged immediately after the incident, sources added.
