Amritsar, Aug 1 (UNI) A local court today granted bail to singer Narinder Chanchal in a Copyright Act case, after he furnished a surety bond of Rs 50,000.

The singer who was present in the court was also directed by Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Varinder Kumar to desposit a fine of Rs 10,000, as he had failed to appear before the court during the hearing of the case last month.

The case was filed by local resident Brij Mohan, who claimed that the singer had violated the Copyright Act by publicly singing devotional songs composed by his father, the late Chaman Lal. The plaintiff had also claimed that Chanchal had not sought permission from him or his late father for singing these songs.

The court has fixed August eight as the next date of hearing.
