Opp condemn ruling party action in Orissa Assembly
Bhubaneswar, Aug 01 (UNI) Condemning the unruly behaviour of the ruling BJD-BJP members inside the Orissa Assembly, the Opposition today decided to continue with their walkout till Speaker Maheswar Mohanty sets the house in order.
The entire Opposition had earlier staged a noisy walkout after the treasury bench members entered into the well and shouted slogans to protest the defacement of Biju Patnaik's statue forcing the Speaker to adjourn the house twice till lunch.
Leader of Opposition J B Pattnaik later told newsmen that it was unprecedented in the history of parliamentary democracy that the treasury bench members had exhibited unruly scenes inside the well and disrupted proceedings of the house.
He alleged that the ruling BJD-BJP members did not want the house to run as Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik was scared of facing the Opposition on several important issues concerning the state.
The Congress leader said even Speaker Maheswar Mohanty had expressed his helplessness to run the business of the house in the wake of the unruly behaviour of the treasury bench members.
Mr.Pattnaik said the Opposition had great respect for the late Biju Patnaik and condemned the action of the defacement of his statue by miscreants. He clarified that none of the ten people arrested in connection with the incident was a primary member of the Congress and demanded exemplary punishment to the culprits.
The leader of Opposition dubbed the action of the treasury bench members inside the well of the house as 'suicidal politics' of the ruling BJD-BJP in the state.
He said it was most unfortunate that the treasury bench members were resorting to such unruly scenes and announced that the Opposition would continue to walk out of the house as long as the Speaker 'failed' to bring order in the Assembly.
