NVDA's contingency plan for dam-affected people

Bhopal, Aug 1: The Narmada Valley Development Authority (NVDA) has chalked out a contingency plan for safety of Sardar Sarovar dam-affected families in Jhabua, Badwani and Dhar districts, official sources said.

An amount of Rs 196 lakh would be spent on the contingency plan, which would also be implemented in Indira Sagar Project-affected Khandwa, Dewas and Harda districts.

The plan would be implemented by concerned district collectors.

Besides, the district administration was making public announcements in reservoir areas to caution people for vacating the area following rise in the water level.

The collectors of affected districts had been asked to be vigilant with respect to protection of people still residing in reservoir area.

NVDA Vice Chairman Uday Verma after reviewing the matter with officials yesterday informed that present 119 metre height of the Sardar Sarovar dam affected Jhabua, Badwani and Dhar district.

Although R&R works related to 121.92 metre dam height had been completed, still there may be families residing in reservoir area.

A flood control cell at the NVDA headquarters monitoring water levels of all reservoirs and communicating information at various levels. According to flood control cell, water level of SSP reservoir was 117.110 m, ISP reservoir 246.410 m, Maan dam reservoir 283.200 m, and Bargi dam 412.650 m on July 31. Water discharge from SSP dam was recorded 46777 cusec, sources added.
