Monsoon becomes weak in UP
Lucknow, Aug 1 (UNI) After a brief spell of heavy rainfall last week, monsoon has become weak in Uttar Pradesh.
In the last 24 hrs, rainfall/thundershowers occurred in Allahabad, Varanasi, Faizabad, Lucknow, Jhansi and Agra divisions.
Varanasi recorded 3 cm rainfall, followed by one cm each in Ayodhya and Jhansi, weatherman said.
Moderate to heavy rainfall is likely at many places in the next 24 hrs, while heavy downpour might occur at isolated places in the next 48 hrs.
UP is geared up with flood control mechanism as flood threat haunts this year as well.
Central Water Commission (CWC) said all prominent rivers including Ganga, Yamuna, Ken, Gomti, Sharda, Ghagra, Rapti and Gandak were flowing above the red mark following rainfall in areas prone to waterlogging.
Turbulent Ghagra in Ayodhya was flowing 10 cm above the danger mark, while Sharda in Paliakala was flowing 13 cm above the red mark.
