New Delhi, Aug 1 (UNI) The Veerappa Moily Committee on quota implementation for OBCs in higher educational institutions has recommended that the admission criteria should be set by these instituions alone so that execellence is not compromised.

The Committee in its interim report submitted to the Prime Minister a few days back said institutions of higher learning should keep these principles of expansion, inclusion and excellence in mind while determining the threshold marks for admitting OBC students.

It has also strongly indicated that the reservation may not be implementetd in one go.

''Certain issues and constraints have been posed by the institutions through the groups concerning the time frame for implementation, especially the possibility of sidden expansion leading to loss of merit and excellence. These practical constriants will be adressed by the Oversight Committtee, institrutionwise on receipt of the Groups' final report,'' Mr Moily, the former Karnataka Chief Minister said in the Report.

"The Committee recognises that those institutions of higher learning which have established global reputation (e.g. IITs, IIMs, IISc, AIIMS and other such exceptional quality institutions) can only be maintained if the highest quality in both faculty and students in ensured," the Report said.

It said that ''while expanding intake, care should be taken to ensure that capacities are expanded in subjects or areas in which there are employment opportunities.'' More UNI NAZ MSJ HS1937
