Lakes, rivers overflow as heavy rains lash Rajasthan

Jaipur, Aug 1 (UNI) One person was swept away when he attempted to cross an overflowing river in Sirohi district today.

Heavy rains are lashing the entire state.

The Nakki lake in Mount Abu is overflowing as the place recorded 225 mm of rains today. The showers continue unabated.

Water seeped into the Nimbu Nala Kacchi Basti threatening the residents there. The basti is just next to the Nakki lake.

Superintendent Ms Lata Manojkumar said Ramaji Bheel of Mirpur village was swept away when he was trying to cross a river in Revdar tehsil.

Incharge of flood control, deputy district collector Rajeev Jain said the administration is monitoring the situation.

The southern parts of Rajasthan are experiencing heavy rains and most areas are on the verge of being flooded. Banswara recorded 170 mm rain, while Salumbar in Chittorgarh recorded 150 mm. Ghatol in Banswara had 140 mm while Badi Sadri, Pratap Nagar in Chittorgarh district mapped 130 mm rainfall.

Meanwhile, Bakani in Jhalawar had 250 mm rains, Pachpahad 220 mm, Aspur 200 mm and 90 mm in Aklera.

Weathermen predict more heavy downpour in the next 24 hours in southern parts of Rajasthan and rains in several south-eastern parts of the state.
