Udupi, Karnataka, Aug 1 (UNI) The Nandikur Janajagriti Samiti, fighting a relentless battle against the coal-based thermal power project at Padubidre in the district, today termed as a ''blatant lie'' the statement of Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy and Medical Education Minister V S Acharya about the ''poor'' power scenario of the State.

The remarks were aimed at justifying the proposed 1,015 MW Nagarjuna power project, Samiti President Laxman Shetty said in a release here.

Stating that the state's installed capacity, including central sources, was 7,784.59 MW, he pointed out that a few power projects had been shut down due to lack of demand. The various ongoing power projects would make Karnataka the leading power generating state with an installed capacity of 16,936 MW.
