Government sanctioned four mega projects for Jammu

Srinagar, Aug 1 (UNI) The Jammu and Kashmir government has taken up four mega projects to develop heritage centre at Mubarak Mandi, setting up of rope-way from Mubarik Mandi to Baghe-e-Bahu, development of golf Course on the bank of river Tawi and development of Amarnath yatri Bhawan at Jammu.

Deputy Chief Minister Muzaffar Hussain Baig, who also holds the tourism portfollo, started in the Legislative Assembly today. The work on some of these projects would start soon, he added.

Mr Baig replying to a question by Mr Raman Bhalla said the government is committed for development of Jammu city as a mega tourism spot.

He said Jammu is already a major tourist destination and mostly visited by the pilgrim round the year.

Various development projects in the city related to tourism activities are under implementation to create the requisite infrastructure, he added.

Mr Baigh said the state government has aksed the Centre to grant Rs 10 crore for development of Heritage centre at Mubarik Mandi and Rs three crore would soon be distursed.

He said in the first phase, buildings formerly housing state Public Service Commission and the High Court would be renovated for which the site plan is being prepared.

The Deputy Chief Minister said the state government has hired the services of M/S Rights for preparation of feasibility report of the ropeway from Mubarik Mandi to Baghe-e-Bahu. He said the report is with the state government and soon a decision would be taken on it.

He said the ropeway will be build on BOOT basis.

Mr Baig said a spacious golf course spread over 1384 kanlas would be developed on the banks of river Tawi and a major portion of land has been acquired for this.

He said about 5000 trees are being planted by the forest department in the area to give an aesthetic look to the ecourse.

Mr Baig said the government intents to build a spacious Amarnath Yatri Bhawan at Jammu for which land has been identified. The acquisition process has started and the centre has already released Rs 3.92 crore for the purpose, he added.
