Lucknow, Aug 1: Close on the heels of announcing its entry into Noida, Delhi's Metro railway is all set to enter Ghaziabad.

Uttar Pradesh cabinet today approved plans to allow Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) to sign an agreement with Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) to connect Vaishali in Ghaziabad with the Anand Vihar Inter-state Bus Terminus (ISBT).

Announcing the decision, state chief secretary Naveen Chandra Bajpai said if all goes well, within two yrs, the Metro will connect Delhi with Ghaziabad in its Phase II expansion plan.

As per the approval, the GDA would bear all the expenses (Rs 170 crore) of the proposed project. ''The state government would have no load whatsoever...the GDA would manage the funds through its own resources,'' he added.

The proposed railway track would be 2.05 km long and connect Kaushambi and Vaishali with Anand Vihar ISBT.
