D K Gazmer sworn in as CIC
Gangtok, Aug 1 (UNI) Mr D K Gazmer, a former bureaucrat, was today sworn in as the Chief Information Commissioner of Sikkim.
Acting Governor R S Gavai administered the oath of office to Mr Gazmer at a function here.
Tourism Minister R S Subba and Sports Minister P S Goley were among a host of dignitaries present at the function.
Leader of opposition Acharya Tshering Lama boycotted the function in protest.
Mr Lama alleged that the appointment of Mr Gazmer was illegal, unconstitutional and not in consistence with the provisions of Right to Information Act as his views were not taken into consideration while selecting Mr Gazmer for the post.
After the swearing-in ceremony Mr Gazmer told mediapersons that common people needed to be sensitised about the RTI Act to get the maximum benefit and appealed to the media to help in achieving the goal.
Asked to comment on Mr Lama's allegation, Mr Gazmer said it was a case between Mr Lama and the state government and he had nothing to do with it.
