Chittoor Revenue Division set for second phase polls

Chittoor, Aug 1 (UNI) The second phase of polling for sarpanch and ward member posts will be held in 21 mandals of Chittoor Revenue Division tomorrow.

Of the 452 gram panchayats, notified in election notification, 154 panchayats unanimously declared the members. For remaining 295 panchayats, 753 candidates are in the fray. Similarly of the 4,090 wards in the division, 2,856 ward members were elected unanimously and 2393 candidates are contesting for the remaining 1,169 ward member posts in the division.

District Superintendent of Police, V V Gopalakrishna here today said, in all 4,090 polling stations have been set up and 8,490 polling personnel are being roped in for the exercise. For conducting smooth and fair elections, all necessary bandobust arrangements have been made and about 3,000 police personnels are deployed in the division, he added.

Besides constituting three mobile teams in each mandal in the division, a strict vigil is made for the troubleprone areas, he added.

At Ananthhpur district, the second phase elections will be held in 17 mandals of Dharmavaram Revenue Division.

Of the 266 gram panchayats notified in election notification, 34 sarpanch posts declared unanimous and 595 candidates are contesting for the remaining 232 seats. The 2,772 ward member posts in the division, 947 wards elected their members unanimously and no nomination papers were filed from ten wards in diferent villages in protest against neglect of their wards by the Government. Accordingly, polling would be held for 1,815 wards and 3,558 candidates are in the fray.
