Brief spell of heavy showers hits capital
New Delhi, July 31 (UNI) A sudden burst of heavy showers lashed the capital tonight, ending a brief lull in rainfall activity after last Wednesday's heavy showers.
The rains, which lashed the capital at around 2200 hrs were accompanied by thundershowers.
The rain and thundershowers led to coolness in the air, bringing down the mercury level by several degrees.
Weather office said about 10 mm of rainfall was recorded till 2330 hrs.
The showers come following a lull in rainfall activity since Wednesay, when the capital received the heaviest spell of the monsoon season.
About 150 mm of rainfall was recorded last week.
The weatherman has forecast more rain or thundershowers in Delhi during the next 24 hours.
The weatherman has, however, forecast a decrease in rainfall activity in North west India, including Delhi due to the slight shift in the monsoon system which was likely to lead to widespread rainfall with isolated heavy falls over north Madhya Maharashtra, north Konkan as well as parts of Rajasthan during the next 2-3 days.
