1.3 million tonnes non-levy sugar for Aug
New Delhi, Aug 1 (UNI) To keep market prices of sugar in check, the Government has released 1.3 million tonnes of sugar as non-levy quota for August 2006.
With a levy quota of 165,000 tonnes released already for distribution through the Public Distribution System, the total sugar available this month is 1.46 million tonnes.
The non-levy sugar released is required to be sold within the month. Any unsold quantity at the end of the month would be converted into levy sugar.
With enough stocks in hand, the Government would not hesitate in releasing further quantities in case prices tend to increase.
