UT to set up National Load Desptach Centre
Chandigarh, July 31 (UNI) The Electricity Wing of the Engineering Department, Chandigarh Administration has today signed an agreement with the Power Grid Corporation Limited (PGCIL) for setting up of a National Load Despatch Centre (NLDC) at New Delhi for all power utilities of UT.
The agreement was signed by UT Finance-cum-Secretary Engineering S K Sandhu on behalf of Chandigarh Administration and Executive Director N R Chanda on behalf of PGCIL.
Once the NLDC comes into existence, monitoring of all generating stations, transmission lines, load centres of the country would be possible at a centralized location. The benefits of the NLDC include security and reliability of the grid, optimum power exchanges between the regions, optimum utilization of hydro and thermal resources, quick restoration of grid in case of black out and integrated operation of all the regional grids.
With the setting up of the NLDC, different parameters of electricity like voltage and frequency could be maintained within permissible limits, thus, improving quality of supply.
The NLDC will also keep a watch whether any state is making violation of norms laid down for drawing power from grid and thus will reduce the chances of grid failure.
The UT will also have all the information online relating to availability of power data and surplus power available with different constituents.
At present, there are State Level Load Despatch Centres (SLDCs) and Regional Load Despatch Centres(RLDCs), which are looking after the work of the load despatch and other related activities.
The SLDCs are monitoring generating stations, transmission system and load centres of their respective states whereas the RLDCs are monitoring their respective regions.
