Two scribes, cop involved in blackmailing, abeting suicide
Moga, July 31 (UNI) Police have registered a case against two journalists and a head constable on the charges of driving a girl to commit suicide.
Senior Superintendent of Police Nageshwar Rao said Harjit Singh Kohli, representing a Punjabi daily and Gurdeep Singh Mann, employed with a news channel in connivance with a head constable Iqbal Singh took the pictures of a girl sitting in a park with her two friends in Muktsar district on July 24.
The head constable then took all the three to the police station and later released them without registering a case against them.
Both the journalists then visited the house of one of the boy and and threatened his father that if he did not pay Rs 50,000 they would release the photographs in newspaper and television.
They however, settled the matter for Rs 35,000.
The girl, badly shaken by the incident, allegedly committed suicide the same night.
After a probe, the police registered a case against the scribes under sections 306, 389, 182 and 34 of IPC at Gidderbaha Police Station.
The head constable has been placed under suspension.
