Tender bids by NEEPCO
Imphal, Jul 31: The Citizens Concern For Dams and Development has condemned the opening of tender bids by the North Eastern Electric Power Corporation (NEEPCO) at Guwahati for construction of Tipaimukh dam in Manipur.
The CCDD said a detailed research and study on the environmental, social, cultural, health and seismic impacts of the Tipaimukh project were not done.
It alleged that NEEPCO had not given a detailed report on the matter and no public hearing was held as required. The Action Committee Against Tipaimukh Dam Project (ACTIP) also condemned the government for trying to go ahead with the Tipaimukh dam.
Many vital and contentious points that have to taken into consideration have been totally ignored on Tipaimukh Dam issue by the both Government of Manipur (GoM) and North East Electric Power Corporation Ltd. (NEEPCO), NIPCO alleged.
ACTIP had called a 24 hour state wide general strike from July 27 to July 28 to oppose the decision of the government to construct the dam.
