Storage in major rivers on the upswing

New Delhi, July 31 (UNI) The combined live water storage in 76 reservoirs which was 22 per cent of the installed capacity on June one at the begining of monsoon has touched 39 per cent on July 21.

The Central Water Commission which monitors the storage position has reported that the inflow in Indus, Tapi, Mahi, Sabarmati, River of Kutch, Godavari, Krishna, Cauvery and neighbouring east flowing rivers was better than the last 10 years and it was 80 per cent or more than average of previous 10 years in Mahanadi and other east flowing rivers.

However the inflows in Ganga and Narmada rivers, the storage was less than 80 per cent of last 10 years of average while the position was no different in 17 of the 76 reservoirs.
