Situation grim in Sangli as Krishna crosses red mark
Sangli, July 31: For the second consecutive day today, river Krishna has been flowing above the danger mark near Aairvin bridge, close to Sangli city in Western Maharasthra, as there has been no change in the flood situation.
The river was flowing at the height of 49 ft near Aairvin bridge this morning, crossing the danger mark of 45 ft, District Collector office said.
Though the intensity of rains in the area has been less since yesterday, there has been no change in the worrying flood situation as the water is being continuously released from Koyna and Warna dams, sources said.
A large number of villages are inundated for the last couple of days and about 65,000 people have been evacuated to safer places so far, even as the process is still continuing, sources added.
Meanwhile, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister R R Patil, Finance Minister Jayant Patil and Sangli District Guardian Minister Patangrao Kadam have been camping in the district since yesterday and visited the flood-affected today to take stock of the relief and rescue operations underway.
