Rail reservation centres to be opened in all district
Imphal, Jul 31 (UNI) The central government has decided to take up a rail project upto Tupul at Tamenglong district of Manipur.
The people of the state faced problems in buying railway tickets and a single counter was opened at Imphal. The Ministry of Railways has given an assurance for opening of railway reservation counters in every district headquarters in Manipur to relieve the hardships faced by the people living in the interior areas of the state.
The state transport Minister T Phungzathang Tonsing, who is also holding the portfolio of Irrigation and Flood Control Department (IFCD) and Tribal Development, said the Ministry had communicated the matter to him in writing.
The Manipur Information Centre, informed that the Minister approached to the Ministry for opening of counters in the district headquarters in view of frequent bandhs in Manipur, and people in the interior areas desiring to travel by train had to face lots of hardships.
The State Government also sought to the Ministry of Railways for release of Rs 80 lakhs for construction of those counters at the district headquarters namely Senapati, Ukhrul, Chandel, Churachandpur, Tamenglong, Bishnupur, Thoubal and Porompat at the rate of Rs 10 lakhs per counter.
The State Government has found out the areas where the counters are to be constructed, he added.
