NESO to agitate against NEEPCO CMD
Shillong, Jul 31 (UNI) Peeved with the adamant attitude of the Union Power Ministry to remove 'controversial' North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Chairman cum Managing Director Subhash Chandra Sharma, the North East Students' Organisation (NESO) will launch a sit in demonstration at the NEEPCO headquarter on August 4, next here.
The NESO decision to take the street against Mr Sharma came after the Centre show no sign to remove him for indulging in ''favourtism'' and ''nepotism''.
The demonstration would be led by the Khasi Students' Union and supported by other students' bodies of the region to pressurise the ruling Congress led UPA government immediate removal of Mr Sharma.
''We were forced to agitate following the ''adamant attitude'' of the Power Ministry in retaining the ''tainted'' Corporation's CMD,'' KSU General Secretary Hamletson Dohling said.
Last week, the Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo people launched a three-day office picketting of NEEPCO Headquarters in protest against the UPA government delay in removing the controversial Corporation's CMD.
In fact, at least nine NEEPCO employee's Unions and Associations have supported the three-day office picketing sponsored by the FKJGP demanding for change of guard in this central government owned Corporate house.
Accusing Mr Sharma's for indulging ''nepotism'' and ''favouritism'', the employees' Unions and Associations said NEEPCO has lost several projects, which were under execution causing heavy loss to the Corporation due to the present CMD.
Recently, the FKJGP had also sought the intervention of Congress president and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi to remove Mr Sharma at the earliest.
Earlier, the CBI had also indicted Mr Sharma for faking his experience certificates to get the post of Chairman in the National Hydro Power Corporation (NHPC).
