Narmada in spate: normal life affected by heavy rains
Bhopal, July 31(UNI) Narmada is in spate and normal life affected in many areas in Madhya Pradesh following overnight heavy rains disrupting road traffic and inundation of low lying areas.
State capital Bhopal received 45 m m rains since last night and rain water entered several shanties in low lying areas.
West-flowing Narmada is in spate and about 450 families residing in low-lying areas on the river bank in Mandla had been shifted to safer places, official sources said, adding people had been alerted to move to safer places as the Narmada water level was on the rise with flood water entering several houses.
Road traffic from Mandla to Seoni and Dindori remained disrupted with rain water flowing above the bridges on rivers and rivulets. Though the situation was under control, police was put on alert.
At Bhopal, Met office forecast heavy rains all over the state in next 24 hours. The state capital received 376 mm rainfall this season, 175 mm less than normal.
Road traffic on Bhopal-Sagar route remained disrupted with no buses coming from Sagar in two hours before noon.
