MP to reduce interest on farm loans: Chouhan

Budhni, MP, July 31 (UNI) The Madhya Pradesh Government is seriously considering reducing interest rates on loans provided to agriculturists, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has said.

Mr Chouhan, while addressing a public meeting at his assembly constituency yesterday, said the government was trying to reduce interest rates and deliberations were held with Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram in this regard. Another meeting would be held with him soon in this regard.

Asserting that the government was serious about resolving problems of peasants, he said a provision had been made to assess loss due to natural calamities on the basis of 'patwari halkas' instead of tehsils. Besides, amendment has been made in the RBC.

Expressing happiness over the success of free medical treatment, the CM said the government intended to serve poor and needy people.

The government has received several proposals for setting up industries in the state. He assured that farmers' welfare would be taken into consideration while setting up industries in Budhni and that peasants received adequate compensation for their land.

On the occasion, Mr Chouhan also inaugurated free medical camp and animal fair.
