Land auctions: CPI demands white paper
Hyderabad, July 31 (UNI) Threatening to launch stir against the alleged ''taking over of lands'' from small farmers by the Andhra Prasesh Government, the CPI, today demanded a white paper on land auctions in the state.
Addressing a press conference here, CPI State Secretary K Narayana claimed that in the name of development, the Government was evicting people without providing them alternate sites. ''The poor should not be evicted even from Government land without resettling them elsewhere'', he pointed out.
The Government should take measures to rehabilitate people who were evicted and jobs should be provided to them once the industries came up, he demanded.
The CPI, a key alley of the ruling Congress, would hold conferences for three days from August five to mobilise the public to step up stirs to protect their interests, he added.
