Infosys awaiting final proposal from WB govt

Kolkata, Jul 31 (UNI) Infosys is awaiting for a final proposal from the West Bengal government for land required for setting up its IT and IT-enabled projects in Kolkata, its Chief Operating Officer (COO) S Gopalakrishnan has said.

''We have sought 100 acres from the West Bengal government. The government has shown us some pieces of land. Now we are awaiting a formal proposal and location as well as the site for the land,'' Gopalakrishnan told reporters on the sidelines of 'Tieger' award 2006 programme.

''We can take a final decision only after receiving a formal proposal,'' he said.

He said currently land prices varied between Rs 5 lakh and Rs 30 lakh per acre in the areas Infosys had been expanding its business.

Infosys has already assured the state government to invest around Rs 250 crore for setting up IT and IT-enabled projects in the state which would create employment for around 5,000.
