CUSAT acquires premier laser system for research
Kochi, July 31 (UNI) The Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) has acquired the most advanced ''femtosecond'' laser system to facilitate research in nonlinear optical effects under sub-pico second excitement.
The system was imported from United States by the Centre of Excellence in Lasers and Optoelectronic Sciences (CELOS) of the university at a cost of Rs 1.5 crore, an official release said today.
The researchers in the university will use this technology for a variety of investigations. One notable study will be production and measurements of 'solitons' in an optical fibre as optical solitons are supposed to improve the future of telecommunications in a significant way, the release added.
The machine will be inaugurated by State Education Minister M A Baby at a function on August five.
