Cong flays Advani for raking up Bofors issue

New Delhi, July 31 (UNI) Assailing Leader of the Opposition L K Advani for seeking to raise the Bofors issue in the Lok Sabha again, the Congress today said he owed an explanation as to why the previous NDA government did not appeal against a High Court judgment giving a clean chit to late Rajiv Gandhi if it felt that there was still a case against the former Prime Minister.

Mr Singhvi told reporters here that Mr Advani was seeking to wrongly interpret the interview of former union minister Arun Singh in this context while the fact of the matter was that the people of the country and the court had given Mr Gandhi a clean chit.

At the time the clean chit was given, BJP-led NDA was in power and it did not appeal against the judgement within the prescribed time limit.

Describing Mr Advani's conduct in raising the Bofors issue again as irresponsible and unfortunate, Mr Singhvi said Mr Advani was adept at raising non-issues in and outside Parliament. For Congress, this was no issue, he added.
