Congress calls for UN intervention in Lebanon

New Delhi, Jul 31: The All India Congress Committee (AICC) today strongly condemned the outrageous killing of civilians in Lebanon in the indiscriminate Israeli bombings and called for immediate intervention by the international community and the UN.

''The deaths of innocent women and children casued by air strikes is shocking and reprehensible. This callous and irresponsbile act underscores the tragedy of Lebanon,'' Congress Spokesman Abhishek Singhvi said in a release circulated at a press briefing here.

The AICC also deplored the Israeli attacks on UN peacekeeping troops on the Israeli-Lebanon border in which Indian armed forces personnel have been injured.
