CEP volunteers arrested for staging demonstration

Pondicherry, July 31 (UNI) As many as 68 volunteers including 28 women of Continued Education Programme (CEP) were arrested today when they took out a procession to picket the Pondicherry Legislative Assembly pressing for regularisation of their service.

The police waylaid the procession, which began from the education department complex and arrested the demonstrators.

Meanwhile, as many as 32 part-time employees including six women of the Art and Culture Department were also arrested, when they attempted to picket the Assembly to press for their regularisation in service.

The Pondicherry State Nursing Assistants also staged a dharna in front of the Assembly today by blind-folding their eyes with a black cloth, demanding the Government to fill up vacancies and provision for timely promotions.
