ASI who saved the 'burning man' is now a SI

New Delhi, July 31 (UNI) A policeman whose quick response and bravery saved a man who set himself on fire here earlier this week was today hailed as a hero and given an out of turn promotion by theDelhi police.

Assistant Sub-Inspector Kamal Singh has been promoted to the rank of Sub-Inspector, Additional Commissioner of Police Dipendra Pathak said, saluting his brave act and citing it as an example for the force to follow.

''His courageous and sensitive act and quick response saved a life,'' the ACP pointed out.

Kamal sustained 20 per cent burn injuries while saving 35-year-old Rajnish Kumar who tried to immolate himself at Jantar Mantar here on Saturday seeking the release of his ''abducted'' wife and child.

Both are recuperating in hospital.
