Air traffic disrupted in MP
Bhopal, July 31 (UNI) Air traffic was disrupted today in Madhya Pradesh including in the state capital due to intermittent rainfall that lashed the state.
Three flights -- Indian Airlines, Jet Airways and Air Deccan -- could not land at the Raja Bhoj Airport this morning due to defect in the instrumental landing system (ILS). The defect was being repaired.
Airport sources said Delhi-Bhopal Air Deccan flight was scheduled to land at 0745 hrs at the airport but a defect occurred in the ILS when the plane was about to land. The plane, which was not permitted to land, returned to New Delhi via Indore and Jabalpur.
After few minutes, a Mumbai-Indore-Bhopal Indian Airlines flight reached here but was not allowed to land and was returned.
Later, a Delhi-Indore-Bhopal Jet Airways flight was sent back to New Delhi from Indore itself.
As flights were not allowed to land, passengers faced lot of hardships.
Sources said ILS system aided planes in landing or taking off under a visuality of 1200 m. However, a visuality of 2400 m was required for landing or taking off in absence of the ILS. The visuality was less than 2400 m due to rains.
