Malaysia defeats Sri Lanka; retains title
Bangalore, July 30 (UNI) Malaysia retained the title by defeating Sri Lanka 61-46 in the finals of the fifth Asian Youth Girls Netball Championship here today.
Three-time winners Sri Lanka failed to encash the opportunities which came their way. Malaysia lass were in a commanding position right from the beginning.
Goal scorer Aruna was at her best scoring 34 goals, while goal attacker Nur Ezzaini Mohd Nor scored 27 goals for the winners. For the losers, goal attacker Gishanthi Jayakody (36 goals) displayed superb skill in finishing.
In the match played for the third position, Singapore defeated Thailand 51-40.
India missed the fifth position narrowly as Hong Kong pipped the hosts by a point (39-38) in extra time.
