Sensex up 124 points on 3rd consecutive day gain
Mumbai, Jul 27: In a volatile trading, the BSE sensitive index surged 124 points and closed at 10,741.59 points as the July derivatives contract came to an end today.
The sensitive index closed at 10,741.59 compared to the previous close of 10,617.27, a 1.17 per cent gain. It was the third consecutive day of positivity on the sensex.
The BSE sensex swung 173 points touching a high of 10,763.67 and a low of 10,589.68 in the intra-day trading.
Similarly the S&P CNX Nifty rose 46 points, or 1.4 per cent to close at 3,156.15.
Even the Asian stocks edged higher for the second day. Key benchmark indices in Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and Singapore rose between 1.3 to 2.0 per cent.
All the BSE sectoral indices today closed in the green, even the Banking index which saw extreme volatility and stayed in the red for major part of the day closed in the green by 0.92 per cent.
All other sectors led by CG up 2.72 per cent and followed by Consumer Durables, PSU, AutoTeck and SmallCap and Midcap grew 2.16, 1.93, 1.23 and 1.13 per cent respectively.
Major gainers on the index were HDFC up 4.98 per cent to Rs 1,190.00, BHEL up by 4.97 to Rs 1952.25, ONGC up by 3.85 per cent to Rs 1182.10, Bharti Airtel up by 3.37 per cent to Rs 395.80, Reddy's Lab up by 3.32 per cent to Rs 1367.30, Wipro up by 3.04 per cent to Rs 490.35, NTPC up by 2.64 per cent to Rs 114.35, Grasim Industries up by 2.34 per cent to Rs 2074.35, Hindalco up by 2.22 per cent to Rs 165.70 and Maruti Udyog up by 2.21 per cent to Rs 781.25.
Besides, the losers were- Hero Honda down by 1.56 per cent to Rs 692.33, and Ranbaxy down by 1.55 per cent to Rs 365.70, Gujarat Ambuja down by 0.86 per cent to Rs 104.35, ITC down by 0.83 per cent to Rs 166.55, Reliance Energy down by 0.59 per cent to Rs 447.85, Reliance Communications down by 0.43 per cent to Rs 256.50, Reliance Industries down by 0.19 per cent to Rs 998.55 and Tata Steel down by 0.09 per cent to Rs 496.05 per cent.
The breadth in the broader market was in favour of 1450 advances as against 954 declines out of total 2483 scrips traded on the BSE today.
