Koirala lauds India's support for democracy

Kathmandu, Jul 27: Nepal Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala today lauded Indian support for the peoples movement in the country.

''We appreciate constant support of India for the consolidation of democracy in Nepal,'' Mr Koirala said, while meeting a multi-party Indian delegation led by Indian Nationalist Congress Party General Secretary, DP Tripathi here.

The delegation, on a mission to convey Mahatma Gandhi's message of peace and non-violence, met various political party leaders and civil society representatives.

During the meeting at the Prime Minister's official residence in Baluwatar today, the delegation handed over Mr Koirla a special memento sent by former Indian Prime Minister Chandra Shekhar.

''India will always support Nepal in its aspiration for democracy and peace,'' Mr Tripathi told mediapersons.

The Indian delegation also met with CPN-UML General Secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal.

The delegation entered into Nepal through the eastern town of Kakarvitta yesterday.
