Officer-in-charge placed under suspension

Siwan, Bihar, July 25 (UNI) The absconding officer-in-charge of M H Nagar police station, Devendra Prasad, who was allegedly involved in a custodial death last night, was placed under suspension today following a directive from Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.

One Phursat Singh died in police custody.

District Magistrate Santosh Kumar Mall said raids were being conducted to arrest the absconding officer.

Meanwhile the government and the Red Cross announced a grant of Rs 10,000 each to the family of the victim. A government job would also be given to one of the eligible members of the deceased family, Mr Mall said.

Meanwhile, an FIR was lodged against absonding police officer at the police concerned station by Harendra Singh, the younger brother of the deceased.

Earlier villagers had torched M H Nagar police station following the death of Singh last night.
