Observer holds meeting with both factions in CAB

Kolkata, Jul 25 (UNI) With just five days to go for Cricket Association of Bengal elections, court-appointed observer S K Phouzdar today held a meeting with both the factions at the CAB headquarters at the Eden Gardens.

The meeting mainly discussed the norms to be followed during the election.

Foujdar, who went to the Eden Gardens in the afternoon, discussed the poll procedure with Dalmiya, who is seeking re-election as president, CAB joint secretaries Saradindu Pal and Amitava Banerjee besides dissident faction leaders, Kolkata Police commissioner Prasun Mukherjee, Raja Venkat and Samar Pal. Both the parties had their lawyers present on the occasion.

CAB President Jagmohan Dalmiya later described the meeting as ''very succesful'' and said both the parties agreed with the observer on the process laid down by him.

''Neither of us have any objection,'' he said.

The CAB chief, however, refused to give details of the meeting.

A source in the dissident camp also expressed satisfaction with the way the meeting went. ''The atmosphere was very congenial.'' A source present during the meeting, said Dalmiya and Mukherjee would sit with the observer at noon tomorrow to scrutinise the nominations. ''The lawyers of each side will wait outside the meeting room, and may be called in case of a dispute,'' he said.

The election process would start tomorrow with the scrutiny of nominations tomorrow afternoon onwards.
