Dept of post saving collection reaches Rs 35,000 cr from Mah

Aurangabad, Maharashtra, July 25 (UNI) Maharashtra circle of the Postal Department has saving collection to the tune of Rs 35,000 crore, Chief Post Master General K Noorjehan said here today.

Addressing a press conference after unvailing new initiatives by the postal department here, Ms Noorjehan said that the banking services of the postal department were handled by about 1.9 million staff of the department.

However, she said that the department has been finding it difficult to handle the banking operations, in absence of total computerisation system as well as the skilled staff.

According to her, the department has been keen on recruiting skilled people to oversee the operations of the banking section, which showed an increase of collection by Rs 10,000-12000 crore annually.

The Maharashtra circle comprising of Aurangabad, Nagpur, Mumbai and Goa region is the largest contributor of revenue from premium products, Ms Noorjehan said adding that the circle has been given a target of rs 400 crore for the currency fiscal year.

The maharashtra circle which was given a target of rs 280 crore from the premium segment last financial year, has posted a total business of rs 288 crore, showing a surplus of rs eight crore than the target.
