Delhi all set to bag 2014 Asian Games

New Delhi, July 25 (UNI) Asian Games is all set to return to the national capital after a 24-year gap with the 2014 edition almost sure to be held here.

Delhi will host the 2010 Commonwealth Games, final of the 2011 Cricket World Cup and there is every likelyhood that organisers would include cricket in the Asiad with four Test playing nations, including three World Cup winners, hailing from the continent.

However, a final decision on the venue will be taken at the 26th General Assembly of the Olympic Council of Asia in Kuwait in July next year.

Delhi's chance brightened up after Busan, the only other serious contender, opted out of the fray, for they had hosted the event in 2002, Indian Olympic Association Secretary Randhir Singh said here today.

He also said that Delhi has the backing of most of the countries.

''India had successfully hosted the 1982 Games and has every right to host the mega event after 32 years,'' he said in a statement.

Infrastructure for the Games would not be a problem with India preparing for the 2010 Commonwealth Games, Mr Singh said.

Doha hosts the 15th Asian Games later this year in December, while the next edition will takeplace in Guangzhou, China, in 2010.

The IOA official also announced that the second Afro-Asian Games would be staged in Algiers, Algeria, next year.
