High alert in Krishna Dt after naxal crack down

Vijayawada, July 24 (UNI) Police are on high alert in Krishna district to repulse any naxal attack, in the wake of yesterday's encounter in Nallamala forest in Prakasam district in which CPI (Maoist) State Secretary Madhav and seven other naxals were killed.

Talking to UNI over phone, District Superintendent of Police M K Singh said a high alert was sounded in checkposts and even vehicles entering the district was thoroughly checked.

Though the naxalite activities were not much in the district, extra precautions were taken as vehicles going to Guntur should cross Prakasam barrage across river Krishna here.

Mr Singh said political leaders were alerted and gunmen were asked to accompany them.

All the police officers in the district were put on high alert and night patrolling was intensified, Mr Singh added.
