Provide marketing facility to farmers: Swaminathan

Bhopal, July 22 (UNI) Noted agriculture scientist and National Commission on Farmers Chairman Dr M S Swaminathan has stressed the need for providing better marketing facilities to farmers for their uplift.

''Farming no longer remained profitable specially for those having meagre land holding. Economic condition of farmers could be improved only by providing efficient marketing chain for farm products and promoting non-agriculture occupations,'' Dr Swaminathan said while interacting with Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and other ministers on advancement of farming community here yesterday.

The pioneer of Green Revolution congratulated Mr Chouhan for taking initiative in setting up Kisan Ayog and Kisan Manch, launching Jalabhishek Abhiyan and providing soil cards to farmers, official sources said.
