NEC allocates funds for construction of roads

Agartala, Jul 22: Several roads will be built in Tripura under the Bharat Gramin Sadak Yojna (BGSY) and some more will be developed with the help of North-Eastern Council (NEC).

According to official sources here more than 2,400 km new roads will be constructed and another 1,800 km old road will be developed.

Works for these will be completed within 2009.

The NEC has allocated Rs 56 crore to develop the Agartala-Khowai road, work for which would start shortly.

The state government is working a plan to connect all the village with the main roads and this part is the proposed 2400 km road. As per the scheme, 1800 km old road will also be developed for which the Centre had already given its approval.

Works for both the construction of new roads and development of old roads, will have to be completed by the end of 2009 and for this purpose the PWD has already started all preparations. To speed up the works the PWD will create four more Circle Office throughout the state and six division will also be opened.

While the HCL will be in responsible for works in both Dhalai and North districts, NBCC will work in West and South districts respectively, the sources said.
