All inter-state bus services to stop

Imphal, Jul 22: All passenger bus service operators of Manipur have decided to suspend all inter-state bus services from tomorrow.

The services would be affected from Imphal to Guwahati via Kohima and Dimapur due to suspension of services. Services on National Highway 39 would also be affected.

All Manipur Inter-State Bus Association president A Budha said here today that the bus operators could not meet the monetary demands from militants in Nagaland. So they decided to suspend operations.

''The militants collect money from the vehicle owners and ticket counters selling,'' Mr Budha added.

Everyday more than 100 passenger vehicles ply on the Imphal-Guwahati sector and the suspension of services would be seriously affected as there is no rail head in the state and people depend on surface for transport and communication.
