Aged giraffe gives birth to premature calf
Mysore, July 22 (UNI) The century-old Mysore zoo has a new attraction now, with the birth of a male giraffe last evening.
Zoo Executive Director G V Ranga Rao, in a release here, said an aged giraffe called 'Honey' (20) delivered the calf. Special care was being given to the premature calf.
He said the authorities have set up a preparatory room, nursing room and exercising yard for the young one, besides maintaining hygiene to avoid infection. A special feeding bottle had been imported from the Dublin zoo in Ireland to nurse the calf.
'Honey', which was brought from the Carl zoo in 1988, had already delivered seven calves, one female and six males, out of which four were successfully hand reared.
