Widow punished for pregnancy

Chhindwara, MP, July 21 (UNI) A 30-year-old tribal widow has been tonsured and told to host a community feast by a panchayat in this district's Tumdagadi village as ''punishment'' for her pregnancy.

Police today registered a case against Malkasha, Asahu, Makar, Bhagatram, Pritam, Rapad, Pitru, Dilsha, Tulsiram and Maniram following a complaint by the victim's son Vinod and father Jeetan.

The panchayat issued the draconian order last month.
