Upper Krishna project: CS asked to file affidavit

Bangalore, July 21 (UNI) The Karnataka High Court today directed the State Chief Secretary to file an affidavit, explaining the developments on the subject matter of a public interest litigation, seeking a CBI inquiry into the alleged misappropriation of funds in the implementation of the Upper Krishna project, and appear before the court on August two.

Chief Justice Cyriac Joseph and Mr Justice D V Shylendrakumar directed the Chief Secretary to file the affidavit after the Government had filed the statement of objection.

In his PIL, filed in 1999, Karnataka Corruption Eradication Committee Secretary H C Somasekhara Reddy had sought a CBI inquiry into the implementation of the project, contending that the State exchequer had incurred a loss of Rs 793.42 crore due to several irregularities and illegalities.
